Nigerian unions to resume rallies against gov't

* Unions say downstream deregulation would push up prices

* Living conditions no better under new govt

ABUJA, June 10 (Reuters) - Nigeria's main labour movement said on Wednesday it would resume its protest rallies next week because the government had failed to meet its concerns over fuel prices, wages and electoral reform.

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), an umbrella labour movement coordinating the planned action, said it would hold a mass demonstration in the northern city of Kano on Monday.

Thousands of workers marched last month in Nigeria's commercial capital Lagos, the first such demonstration against President Umaru Yar'Adua's administration since it came to power just over two years ago.

Protests had also been scheduled in three other Nigerian cities, but were cancelled to allow negotiations between labour leaders and government officials.

"We had expected the government to take advantage of the intervening period to take the steps necessary to ensure a peaceful resolution of the demands. Regrettably, the government has failed to do this," said NLC spokesman Owei Lakemfa.
