European shares are set to open lower as concerns about company profits are renewed by the second-biggest U.S. oil company Chevron Corp (CVX.N), which says late Thursday that second-quarter earnings will be hit by declining U.S. refining margins.

DJ Euro Stoxx STXEc1 futures and Germany's DAX futures FDXc1 are both down 0.3 percent and France's CAC-40 futures FCEc1 is 0.4 percent lower.

European stocks had gained 0.8 percent on Thursday, ending a five-session losing streak.
