European shares stay weaker snapping a four-day winning streak as Wall Street is mostly lower in early trade, with telecom stocks and miners weighing in Europe.

The pan-European FTSEurofirst 300 .FTEU3 index of top shares is down 0.3 percent at 1,009.01 points. U.S. major indexes the Dow Jones industrial average .DJI and the S&P 500 .SPX are down 0.04 and 0.11 percent respectively. The Nasdaq Composite .IXIC is up 0.2 percent.

Telecom stocks feature among the biggest decliners. Vodafone (VOD.L) slips 3.3 percent after the group's earnings margin declines 2.1 percentage points, due to tough competition in emerging markets such as India and a turnaround plan in Turkey. [ID:nL619511]

Miners are on the downside as metal prices retreat. Anglo American (AAL.L), Antofagasta (ANTO.L), Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation (ENRC.L) and Xstrata (XTA.L) are down 1.5 to 2.7 percent.
