UPDATE 2-Refining boosts OMV Q3, production seen up

VIENNA, Nov 10 (Reuters) - OMV's (OMVV.VI) healthier refining business helped it beat expectations for third quarter earnings on Tuesday and the Austrian energy group held on to its "ambitious" 2010 production target.

Although lower crude prices and narrower refining margins pushed underlying earnings down 49 percent, OMV beat all estimates for underlying earnings in a poll and its shares were among the top gainers in the FTSEurofirst 300 .FTEU3.

However Chief Financial Officer David Davies told a conference call he did not see refining margins improving soon given the rocky operating environment for the whole sector.  Continued...
