LONDON, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Former Uruguay international Gus Poyet has agreed a contract to manage Brighton and Hove Albion until the end of next season, the English League One (third division) club said on Tuesday.

The ex-Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, who turns 42 on Sunday, will be joined by Argentine Mauricio Taricco, his former Spurs team mate, as assistant manager of the south coast club who are hovering just above the relegation zone.

"Gus is one of the best up-and-coming young coaches in this country and we are delighted to give him his first opportunity in management," Brighton chairman Tony Bloom told the club website (www.seagulls.co.uk).
