European shares extend gains; banks lead

LONDON, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Europe shares extended gains on Wednesday and hit new three-week highs, with banks such as Credit Agricole (CAGR.PA: Quote, Profile, Research) gaining after reporting results.

At 0934 GMT, the FTSEurofirst 300 index of top European shares was up 1 percent at 1,019.89 points and had hit a three-week high of 1,020.61.

Credit Agricole rose 5.2 percent after its third-quarter net profit fell less than expected. [ID:nLB137720} Other banks to rise included BNP Paribas (BNPP.PA: Quote, Profile, Research), Banco Santander (SAN.MC: Quote, Profile, Research), HSBC (HSBA.L: Quote, Profile, Research) and Societe Generale (SOGN.PA: Quote, Profile, Research), up between 1.4 and 2 percent.
