Shares in British life insurer Legal & General (LGEN.L) are up over 5 percent in early trade, as one of the most equity-exposed stocks of the sector is lifted by optimism on the market and a two-week high in the FTSE bluechip index.

At 0948 GMT, L&G is up 5.1 percent at 85.5, a two week high. Standard Life (SL.L) is up 3.6 percent Aviva (AV.L) climbs 3.2 percent.

"L&G is quite simply a high beta name, and with the markets having a bit of a spike, it is benefitting," one London trader says.
