Nov 12 (Reuters) - The following company announcements, scheduled economic indicators, debt and currency market moves and political events may affect African markets on Thursday

GLOBAL MARKETS

Asian shares edged higher on Thursday as investors favoured riskier assets on further signs the global economy is picking up, while a weak dollar sent gold to a record high. The dollar recovered some losses after hitting a 15-month low, but was down 0.3 percent against a basket of major currencies. [ID:nSP34627]

SOUTH AFRICAN MARKETS

South Africa's rand held gains against the dollar on Wednesday, trading near a three-week high and local stocks rose for the fourth day in a row buoyed by mining shares. The JSE Top-40 index of blue chips .JTOPI gained 1.12 percent to 24,020.62 points and the broader All-share index was up 1.09 percent to 26,662.54 points. [ID:nLB231420]
