MILAN, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Italy showcased the World Cup and trained in front of 3,000 fans in a stadium in L'Aquila on Thursday to show solidarity with the victims of the earthquake which struck the city in April.

The world champions face Netherlands in a friendly in nearby Pescara on Saturday as part of a fund-raising drive to help the area rocked by a quake which killed nearly 300 people.

"I am from this area but the help to this devastated region has come from all Italians," full back Fabio Grosso told reporters. "Here I see the tough work done by people day and night that has helped families who had seen their lives destroyed."
