BUDAPEST, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Hungarian police detained Istvan Goczi, the managing director of gas wholesaler EMFESZ, on suspicion of fraud, the National Bureau of Investigation (NNI) said in a statement late on Wednesday.
The NNI said the detention was related to the sale of EMFESZ but declined to disclose further details.
Igor Gallyas, communication advisor for EMFESZ, told Reuters the investigation and the arrest had no direct impact on day to day business, but if the probe finds the circumstances of the sale were improper, it might impact current contracts.
"Obviously we cannot remain completely independent of this fact, but we believe that primarily it is Mr. Goczi who has to clear his name."
"If the current examination produces anything that proves that the circumstances of the sale (of EMFESZ) were not appropriate, that could have an effect on contracts we currently hold," Gallyas said. Continued...
