Tennis-Little-known British pair hope to cause Wimbledon stir
LONDON, June 12 (Reuters) - Colin Fleming and Ken Skupski will have a spring in their step when they turn up at Wimbledon later this month and are looking forward to causing a stir.
Before this week, barely anyone had heard of the British doubles team but a win over the American Bryan brothers in the second round at Queen's Club has changed all that.
Two days after embarrassing the multiple grand slam champions, they almost caused another upset on Friday before finally falling in the quarter-finals to fifth seeds Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach 5-7 7-6 10-7 (champions tiebreak).
The duo, who had never played a tour level match before this week, now believe they are able to compete alongside the top players and are ready to make an impact at the All England Club where they have been given a wildcard into the doubles draw.
"We can get better. Our good things are as good as anybody's. So we've matched up really well against the guys we've played so far," said Skupski, who is ranked 148th in doubles.
"We really believe that we're here hopefully for a while. We can compete with these guys day in and day out.
"The experience has been fantastic to play at Queen's. I've always dreamed of playing here, and to take down the Bryan brothers and win our first round, as well...
"We'll get bigger and stronger from it and go on from there." Continued...
