UK's newest LNG terminal gets first cargo -BG
LONDON, July 14 (Reuters) - Britain's newest liquefied natural gas terminal, Dragon LNG, took delivery of its first cargo of super-cooled gas on Tuesday, BG Group (BG.L), which holds a 50-percent stake in the facility in south Wales, said.
BG's Methane Lydon Volney tanker, which can carry 145,127 cubic metres of LNG, arrived as expected on Tuesday to deliver the first commissioning cargo to the terminal at Milford Haven.
"Dragon LNG will make a significant addition to the UK's energy security," Mark Carne, Executive Vice President and Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia at BG Group, said.
"It enables the UK to diversify further its energy supplies by providing increased capacity to import natural gas from a range of global sources."
Dragon LNG, which had been due to start up in 2008, is a joint venture with Malaysia's Petronas [PETR.UL] holding 30 percent and Dutch 4Gas 20 percent. [ID:nLA030432]
As Europe's biggest gas market, Britain is expected to import 80-90 percent of its gas by 2020 because of a steady decline in North Sea gas production, analysts say.
