(Reuters) - An Aeroflot Boeing 737-500 passenger plane crashed in Russia on Sunday killing all 88 people on board.
Russia has been trying to improve its aviation safety record. Below is a chronology on major plane crashes in Russia or involving Russian airlines since 2000.
2000
Oct 25 - An Il-18 military plane flying from Russia crashes on a Georgian mountainside, killing 82 people.
2001
July 3 - A Tu-154 passenger plane crashes near the Siberian city of Irkutsk, killing all 145 people on board.
Oct 4 - A Russian Tu-154 flying from Israel plunges into the Black Sea, killing all 78 on board, after it is hit by a stray Ukrainian missile during live-fire exercises on the Crimean peninsula.
2002
July 1 - A Bashkirian Airlines Tu-154 airliner collides mid-air with a German cargo plane over south-west Germany, killing 71 people, including 52 children and teenagers. Continued...
