Soccer-Uribe quits Cienciano, refuses to coach under-20s
LIMA, April 15 (Reuters) - Former Peru forward Julio Cesar Uribe quit as Cienciano coach after a month-long saga on Wednesday but the club said it would report him for defying orders to take charge of the under-20 team.
"I've been told that I'm not training the professional squad any more," Uribe, who has twice coached the Peruvian national team, told RPP radio.
"I have a contract with the professional squad, not the under-20s," added Uribe, who denied reports that he had arrived at the club with police protection on Wednesday morning.
Cienciano president Juvenal Silva urged Uribe to resign more than one month ago, saying the club could not afford to sack him and pay compensation.
"Uribe didn't want to take over the position we gave him," Silva told the Andina news agency. "He abandoned the club and shortly we will make the federation aware of his breach of contract."
The 1982 World Cup player, known as the Black Diamond, is considered one of the finest players the country has produced.
