STOCKS NEWS EUROPE-Mediaset rises; Berlusconi trial delay

Italian broadcaster Mediaset SpA (MS.MI) is up almost 2 percent after Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi won a delay in resumption of his trial on tax fraud to Jan. 18.

Berlusconi's Fininvest SpA [FIN.UL] holding company controls Mediaset. The shares hit a one-month high of 4.925 euros before paring gains, while the DJ STOXX media index .SXMP was down 0.1 percent.

"The stock has sped up after the developments in the trial", a trader says.

Judges agreed to the expected request by Berlusconi's lawyers for a postponement. They said there was "a legitimate impediment" given his commitments as prime minister. [ID:NLG329750]
