LISBON (Reuters) - Portuguese market regulator CMVM said on Friday it and European counterparts are considering "extraordinary measures" on short-selling in financial markets after days of turmoil this week.

CMVM said in a statement to Reuters that it is considering the extra measures, which would go beyond just monitoring short positions, within the framework of the committee of Euronext regulators and the Committee of European Securities Regulators (CESR).

Carlos Tavares, the head of the CMVM, is currently the vice chairman of the CESR.
