Golf-Open-Record breaking Barnes leads after second round

FARMINGDALE, New York, June 20 (Reuters) - Ricky Barnes took advantage of rain-softened conditions and a break in the weather to post a record 36-hole total of eight-under 132 to lead the U.S. Open by one shot after Saturday's delayed second round.

PGA Tour rookie Barnes fired a five-under-par 65 for a one-stroke cushion over fellow American Lucas Glover (64).

A further shot adrift on 134 was Canadian Mike Weir (70), the 2003 U.S. Masters winner.

Sixty players made the cut which was made at four over par at Bethpage Black.

Holder Tiger Woods finished on three-over 143 after carding a 69.

The players were scheduled to set off for the third round in two-balls from the first and 10th tees, starting at 1730 local time (2130 GMT).

Barnes and Glover were to start from the first tee at 1922 with about one hour of light left.

Tied for fourth on three-under 137 were Peter Hanson of Sweden (71), Japan's Azuma Yano (65) and American David Duval (70), the former world number one seeking his first tour win in eight years.
