Soccer-Bayern optimistic over Toni fitness for Fiorentina clash
MUNICH, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Bayern Munich's Italian striker Luca Toni has a good chance of recovering from a rib injury in time to face his former club Fiorentina in the Champions League on Tuesday, coach Juergen Klinsmann said.
"The doctors are very optimistic," Klinsmann said at a news conference on Monday. "It's not 100 percent, though.
"He's extremely motivated and as long as he gets the green light he will play." Toni was unable to train on Sunday after suffering painfully bruised ribs in the 1-0 win over Karlsruhe on Saturday.
Toni joined Bayern from Fiorentina for 11 million euros ($14.79 million) in 2007 and scored 24 Bundesliga goals in his first season. He is finding life tougher this season, with three goals to his name in the league and none so far in two Champions League matches.
"It's obviously a special game for me and I'll do everything to play," Toni said at a news conference. "I hope it works out."
Bayern stand top in Group F after two games, a 1-0 win over Steaua Bucharest and a 1-1 draw with Olympique Lyon.
