"I can't explain how it works but I'm told that the stress I've put myself under last year and this year could be responsible," he said.

Jesper Parnevik is another Swede troubled by injury and he is making a flying visit to the European Tour for just this event, which he won in 1995 at Barseback, the year after challenging strongly in the British Open.

"I had surgery in 2000 on my left hip and now I may need the same with my right hip," Parnevik told reporters. "I'm going to see the surgeon who treated Greg Norman to get his opinion.

"I hope I don't get trouble because this is a special week. It's the last time we'll be playing here for a while."
