Golf-Swede Hanson books U.S. Open ticket with hole in one
LONDON, May 25 (Reuters) - Sweden's Peter Hanson qualified for next month's U.S. Open in dramatic style with a playoff hole-in-one on Monday.
Chasing the 11th and last place in 36-hole international qualifying at the Walton Heath course in Surrey, Hanson edged out British pair Richard Bland and Stephen Gallacher with an ace at the 206-yard 17th.
"I was pumped up so switched from a five-iron to a six and knew I had to hit it really well to land it on the front of the green," said Hanson on the European Tour's website (www.europeantour.com). "It was just a perfect shot."
Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin and Simon Khan of Britain had finished the event equal first on nine-under-par, one ahead of Khan's compatriot Simon Dyson.
The other qualifiers were Thomas Levet and Jean-Francois Lucquin of France, Swede Johan Edfors, Italy's Francesco Molinari, Jose Manuel Lara of Spain, South African Andrew McLardy and Briton David Horsey.
The U.S. Open at Bethpage State Park, New York starts on June 18.
