NAPLES, Nov 26 (Reuters) - Italy's communications regulator demanded Italian telephone company Telecom Italia (TLIT.MI) provide additional measures to give competitors greater access to its fixed-line network, it said in a statement on Wednesday.

Agcom said the measures proposed by the former monopoly so far were insufficient, and demanded it provide "significant" additions by Dec. 8 to its plans to open up the network.

Telecom Italia had proposed wider access to its network in a bid to appease regulators, which in turn could allow the phone company more freedom in its commercial offers in Italy.

Telecom Italia earlier this year created a new division called Open Access that will independently manage the group's network separately from the company's services businesses, with the aim of ensuring equal access to the grid by all competitors.

It also promised equal treatment to all wholesale clients.

But Agcom said Telecom Italia needed to adopt two new governance measures to ensure any controversy over access to the network as well as technical problems are solved.

It also said any changes to Open Access should be approved by the authorities and that its structure be closely aligned with its commitments.
