SAO PAULO, Oct 1 (Reuters) - Brazil exported 22.79 million tonnes of iron ore in September, up nearly 11 percent from 20.55 million tonnes in the same month of 2006, the trade ministry said on Monday.

Brazil exported 24.99 million tonnes of iron ore in August, the ministry said.

Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (CVRD) RIO.N(VALE5.SA), the world's largest producer of iron ore, accounts for the bulk of Brazil's ore exports.

September ore exports were worth $891 million in trade revenue for Brazil, compared with $787 million in September 2006 and $995 million in August of this year.
