SAN FRANCISCO, April 2 (Reuters) - Campbell Soup Co (CPB.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Thursday that it had acquired artisan bread maker Ecce Panis, a move the soup maker expects will slightly add to earnings in fiscal 2010.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Campbell's, which said the deal would not have a material impact on fiscal 2009 profit, plans for the East Brunswick, New Jersey-based bread maker to operate as a distinct brand within its Pepperidge Farm group of products.

In February, Campbell's CEO Douglas Conant told Reuters the company would not hesitate to use its cash for acquisitions, saying that "good values" might be available within the next year or two.

Still, the focus in the food industry has been on smaller deals as credit markets remain tight in the weak global economy.

The deal with Ecce Panis is expected to be completed later this spring.

Shares of Campbell Soup closed up 1.5 percent to $27.91 on the New York Stock Exchange.
