GLENDALE, Arizona (Reuters) - The New York Giants celebrated one of the greatest Super Bowl upsets after toppling the previously unbeaten New England Patriots 17-14 on Sunday.
The game-winner came on a 13-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Eli Manning to wide receiver Plaxico Burress with 35 seconds left on the clock.
"It's the greatest feeling in professional sports," Burress told reporters. "For us to come out here and win a world championship tonight when nobody gave us a shot."
The Giants, two-touchdown underdogs, pulled off the upset with a ferocious defense that held down the high-powered Patriots' attack and two cool-headed fourth-quarter touchdown drives engineered by Manning.
"It's hard to believe," said MVP Manning. "It is an unbelievable game and an unbelievable feeling."
Manning repeated the success of his older brother Peyton, who was named Super Bowl MVP after leading the Indianapolis Colts to victory over the Chicago Bears in last year's NFL title game.
"Watching Peyton win last year and then the Giants winning this year, it's just unbelievable," Eli manning said. "I'm so proud of the guys on this team. We never had doubt. We had total faith in ourselves and we believed we believed we could win and we earned it."
Giants coach Tom Coughlin said his team had known what to do. Continued...
