California AES Redondo 8 natgas unit returns
LOS ANGELES, March 4 (Reuters) - AES Corp's (AES.N) 480-megawatt Unit 8 at Redondo Beach natural gas-fired power station in California returned to service by Wednesday afternoon after a brief outage for planned maintenance, the California Independent System Operator said in a report.
Other units at the plant were listed as operational.
The 42-year-old Unit 8 was reported off-line for only one day. It was listed on the Tuesday daily report as not available. Previously, the unit was off-line for maintenance from Feb. 19-23.
The 1,310-megawatt station is located in Redondo in Los Angeles County about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. There are four units at Redondo, two 175 MW Units 5 (which entered service in 1954) and 6 (1957), and two 480 MW Units 7 (1967) and 8 (1967).
One MW powers about 650 homes in Southern California. AES, of Arlington, Virginia, owns and operates power plants with more than 43,000 MW of generation in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Caribbean, markets energy commodities and transmits and distributes power around the world.
