UPDATE 1-Tellabs forecasts quarterly results below consensus

NEW YORK, Oct 4 (Reuters) - Tellabs Inc (TLAB.O) forecast third-quarter results below market expectations on Thursday and blamed weak sales to North American wireless carriers, prompting its shares to fall 6.8 percent after hours.
In preliminary estimates for third-quarter results, the network equipment maker forecast $452 million to $460 million in revenue. Analysts on average expected revenue of around $500 million, according to Reuters Estimates.
The company also forecast quarterly profit in a range of break-even to 1 cent per share. Excluding items, it forecast profit of 2 cents to 3 cents.
Analysts expected earnings excluding items of 6 cents per share, according to Reuters Estimates.
Tellabs is due to announce its results on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
The company's shares fell to $8.93 in after-hours trading after closing at $9.58, down a cent from a day earlier.
Tellabs said last week it cut about 30 jobs in Denmark and expects to incur a $6 million charge as a result of restructuring. Continued...
