In preliminary estimates for third-quarter results, the network equipment maker forecast $452 million to $460 million in revenue. Analysts on average expected revenue of around $500 million, according to Reuters Estimates.

The company also forecast quarterly profit in a range of break-even to 1 cent per share. Excluding items, it forecast profit of 2 cents to 3 cents.

Analysts expected earnings excluding items of 6 cents per share, according to Reuters Estimates.

Tellabs is due to announce its results on Tuesday, Oct. 23.

The company's shares fell to $8.93 in after-hours trading after closing at $9.58, down a cent from a day earlier.
