INTERVIEW-Golf-Furyk hungry for more distance and more titles

LOS ANGELES, Dec 6 (Reuters) - If Jim Furyk could wield a magic wand, he would add 20 yards to his length off the tee.

Known for his straight hitting and unorthodox swing, the American world number three would dearly love to increase his driving distance in a game increasingly dominated by the power hitters.

Above all, though, Furyk is hungry for more titles. Despite having triumphed 13 times on the PGA Tour, including his sole major at the 2003 U.S. Open, he is eager to maintain the winning habit while still in his prime.

"If I sat back and looked at where I've come from 14 years ago starting as a rookie, I would be really pleased with all that I have accomplished," Furyk, 37, told Reuters on Thursday.

"I have played on five Ryder Cup teams, five Presidents Cup teams, I've won a major championship and somewhere in the neighbourhood of 20 events worldwide.

"That being said, I really feel I have left some on the table. I still feel like I have got a lot of good years in me. I'm in the prime of my career and looking forward to trying to accomplish more."

Furyk, who ended the 2007 PGA Tour seventh on the money list with earnings of over $4 million, has always kept his goals fairly simple.

"I've never looked at money value or that I have to win so many events," he said in a telephone interview. "I always try to improve, try to get better.  Continued...
