LOS ANGELES, May 6 (Reuters) - U.S. cinema chain Regal Entertainment Group (RGC.N) named Amy Miles CEO on Wednesday, making the 42-year-old former accountant and Regal CFO the 29th woman to currently head a Fortune 1000 company.

Miles is expected to oversee Regal's continuing digital transition that sets the stage in coming years for dozens of 3-D films expected to command higher ticket prices.

But analysts say the new chief, who worked hand-in-glove with ex-CEO Mike Campbell, is unlikely to tinker with the company's strategy in the short term.

"It's a very exciting time in the industry and for Regal," Miles told Reuters in an interview. "With the industry's digital conversion, we believe we have huge upside with respect to 3-D and are in for many exciting things."
