Gates buys more Televisa, money manager joins board
MEXICO CITY, May 7 (Reuters) - Billionaire Bill Gates bought nearly $15.2 million worth of stock in broadcaster Televisa in March and his personal money manager has been appointed to the Mexican company's board, a regulatory filing showed.
Gates, through Cascade Investment LLC and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Trust, bought 1.1 million global depositary shares (TV.N: Quote, Profile, Research), each equal to 5 Mexican traded "CPO"s (TLVACPO.MX: Quote, Profile, Research), according to a filing made this week with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Gates now owns 3.4 percent of Televisa's "A" shares and 6.4 percent of its "B," "D" and "L" shares, according to the filing.
Televisa is the biggest producer of Spanish-language TV content in the world and the main supplier to the top U.S. Spanish-language channel Univision.
Earlier this week, Televisa announced that shareholders had approved the appointment of Bill Gates private money manager Michael Larson to Televisa's board of directors.
Gates is also a major shareholder in FEMSA (FMSAUBD.MX: Quote, Profile, Research)(FMX.N: Quote, Profile, Research), Latin America's biggest bottler and brewer. (Reporting by Michael O'Boyle)
