NEW YORK, July 7 (Reuters) - AES Corp's (AES.N) 480-megawatt Unit 8 at Redondo Beach natural gas-fired power station in California was back in service by Monday afternoon, the California Independent System Operator said in a report.

The unit was listed as off-line in a Sunday report by the Cal ISO.

The 1,310 MW station is located in Redondo in Los Angeles County, about 20 miles south of downtown Los Angeles. There are four units at Redondo, two 175 MW Units 5 (which entered service in 1954) and 6 (1957), and two 480 MW Units 7 (1967) and 8 (1967).

One MW powers about 700 homes in California.

AES, of Arlington, Virginia, owns and operates power plants with more than 43,000 MW of generation in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Caribbean, markets energy commodities, and transmits and distributes power around the world.
