US gold, precious metals gain with oil, Ike fears
NEW YORK, Sept 8 (Reuters) - U.S. gold rose in early Monday business when crude oil prices firmed at the threat of damage to U.S. Gulf Coast energy operations from Hurricane Ike, but dollar strength capped its gains, traders said.

GOLD
* December gold GCZ8 added $11.90 to $814.70 an ounce on the COMEX division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
* December's trading band was a narrow $807.60 to $823.0.
* COMEX estimated 10:00 a.m. EDT (14:00 GMT) gold volume at 76,741 lots. The options tally came to 3,536 lots.
* Gold prices were boosted by a rise in crude oil as another hurricane seemed set to enter the Gulf of Mexico-traders. [O/N]
* Hurricane Ike weakened as it raged through Cuba, on a path toward the U.S. oil hub in the Gulf of Mexico. [ID:nL844194]
* But gold's gains were capped by the U.S dollar, which jumped to a one-year peak against a basket of currencies amid optimism over the U.S. government's takeover of mortgage giants Freddie Mac (FRE.N) and Fannie Mae (FNM.N) - traders. [USD/]
* Spot gold moved up to $807.85/809.05 an ounce from $801.10/813.10 an ounce at Friday's close.
* London's morning gold fix was set at $808.0 an ounce.
SILVER
* December SIZ8 rose 8.0 cents to $12.4050 an ounce.
* The range ran $12.33 to $12.7950 per ounce.
* COMEX estimated 10:00 a.m. EDT volume at 14,207 lots.
* Silver advanced with gold, as some players bought Friday's lows hit after the gloomy August labor market reading-traders.
* Silver slid on Friday to a 12-1/2 month low of $12.12.
* Spot silver XAG= firmed to $12.39/12.44 an ounce, up from $12.19/12.27 an ounce at Friday's late quote.
* The silver fix was set at $12.38 an ounce.
PLATINUM - October PLV8 rose $3.70 to $1,371.50 an ounce.
* Spot platinum XPT= moved up to $1,359.00/1379.00 an ounce, from the late Friday quote at $1,391.50/1,411.50 an ounce.
PALLADIUM - December palladium PAZ8 fell $4.90 to $268.0 an ounce.
