UPDATE 1-Ida prompts Petrobras shut-in of Cottonwood platform
(Adds details throughout)
NEW YORK, Nov 9 (Reuters) - Petrobras Americas, a unit of the Brazilian state-run oil firm (PETR4.SA) (PBR.N), said Monday it shut in crude and natural gas production at its Cottonwood GB 244 block in the Gulf of Mexico as a precautionary measure due to Tropical Storm Ida.
Petrobras also evacuated personnel from another Gulf platform, known as EC 373, a company spokeswoman said.
It was not immediately clear how much oil and gas Cottonwood had been producing before the shut-in. The Petrobras-operated oil and gas area is located 138 miles offshore eastern Texas.
Petrobras was producing around 4,000 barrels a day of oil and equivalent natural gas and liquids in the Gulf in September, according to a company website.
"For safety reasons we have evacuated one area and suspended production at GB 244, which is shut in," a company spokeswoman said.
The evacuation at EC 373 and shut-in of production at GB 244 happened late Sunday, the spokeswoman added. (Reporting by Joshua Schneyer; Editing by John Picinich)
