FACTBOX-Storm Ida shuts Gulf of Mexico energy operations
Nov 9 (Reuters) - Energy companies shut oil and natural gas operations in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico as Tropical Storm Ida spun through the region.
The Gulf is the source of 25 percent of U.S. domestically produced oil and 15 percent of natural gas. About 40 percent of U.S. refining capacity is located on the Gulf Coast.
Crude oil futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose more than $2 a barrel at midday Monday (1700 GMT) largely due to the storm threat. [O/N] Natural gas futures were more than 1 cent lower despite the storm. [ID:nN09113069]
