NEW YORK, Jan 9 (Reuters)- Major units at Exxon Mobil Corp's (XOM.N) 150,000-barrel-per-day Los Angeles-area refinery in Torrance, California, were down for planned maintenance until the end of January, a source familiar with refinery operations said on Friday.

"The FCC is down and the crude unit is down also," the source told Reuters, referring to the gasoline-making fluid catalytic cracker and the crude oil processing units.

He did not specify when the maintenance started. (Reporting by Haitham Haddadin)
