SANTIAGO, Aug 10 (Reuters) - Argentina's Marcelo Bielsa was named coach of neighbouring Chile on Friday.

Bielsa, who led his country at the 2002 World Cup, replaced Nelson Acosta, who quit after Chile's 6-1 quarter-final defeat to Brazil at the Copa America in Venezuela last month.

"We've decided that Marcela Bielsa will be the coach of our team during the qualifiers for the World Cup in South Africa," said Harold Mayne-Nicholls, president of the Chilean Football Association (ANFP).

Bielsa's first competitive match in charge will be against his own country when Chile kick off the World Cup qualifiers on Oct.13 or 14 in Buenos Aires.
