NEW YORK, July 10 (Reuters) - Capital Power Corp (CPX.TO)/TransAlta Corp's (TA.TO) 450-megawatt Unit 3 at the Genesee coal-fired power station in Alberta shut on July 9, the Alberta Electric System Operator said in a report.
The 1,218 MW Genesee station is located in Genesee about 50 miles southwest of Edmonton. There are three units at the station, the 384 MW Units 1 (which entered service in 1994) and 2 (1989) and the 450 MW Unit 3 (2005).
Capital Power, which owns all of Units 1 and 2, operates the station for its owners.
Capital Power and TransAlta jointly own Unit 3, which uses supercritical combustion technology.
Capital Power, which is majority owned by Edmonton's EPCOR energy company, owns more than 3,300 MW of generating capacity and markets energy commodities.
TransAlta, of Calgary, Alberta, owns and operates about 9,000 MW of generating capacity and markets energy commodities in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Australia. (Reporting by Scott DiSavino; Editing by John Picinich)
