HOUSTON, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Nearly 31 percent of oil output and almost
8 percent of natural gas production in the Gulf of Mexico were still shut
in the wake of storm Ida, the U.S. Minerals Management Service said on
Wednesday.
The numbers as of midday Wednesday signaled a rapid recovery of
operations after Tuesday's report, which showed 43.09 percent of oil and
27.96 percent of gas shut at the peak of the tropical weather threat.
On Wednesday, 401,120 barrels of oil per day (bpd), or 30.86 percent of
the 1.3 million bpd total, remained shut, MMS said in a news release.
Natural gas output still shut totaled 0.532 billion cubic feet per day
(bcfd), or 7.6 percent of the 7 bcfd flowing prior to the storm, MMS said.
Energy companies reported little or no damage to Gulf facilities from
the storm, once a Category 2 hurricane, which weakened before coming ashore
near Mobile, Alabama, early Tuesday as a tropical depression.
The MMS also reported 17 production platforms still evacuated, 2.45
percent of the total of 694 manned platforms in the Gulf. That was down
from 158 (22.8 percent) on Tuesday.
Four drilling rigs were still evacuated, or 6.06 percent of the 66
currently operating in the Gulf, down from 10 (15.2 percent) on Tuesday,
MMS said.
