UPDATE 1-Shell has maintenance at Scotford

NEW YORK, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RDSa.L) said maintenance was underway at its Scotford refinery in Alberta, Canada, late Wednesday and will cause flaring for a 24-hour period.

"We are conducting maintenance at the refinery; therefore we will be flaring intermittently for the next 24 hours," a refinery official said in a message on a community information line.

He gave no further details about the nature or duration of the work.

Last month, Shell restarted several units at the 98,000 barrel-per-day Scotford refinery. (Reporting by Haitham Haddadin; Editing by John Picinich)
