Dell names VC Breyer to board
* Breyer currently a director at Wal-Mart, Facebook
* Brings experience as investor in startups
SAN FRANCISCO, April 13 (Reuters) - Dell Inc (DELL.O) said on Monday it has named Jim Breyer of Silicon Valley venture capital firm Accel Partners to its board.
Breyer currently holds director positions at Wal-Mart Stores Inc (WMT.N), privately-held social networking site Facebook and media company Marvel Entertainment (MVL.N).
Breyer has been an investor in more than 30 Internet, media and technology companies that have completed public offerings or successful mergers, according to Accel.
"Jim has extensive experience in strategic planning and finance, as well as capital markets and emerging companies," Chief Executive Michael Dell said in a statement.
"That insight will be extremely valuable as we enhance our capabilities on behalf of customers and drive to long-term growth."
Breyer will join Dell's board immediately and stand for election at the company's annual meeting on July 17. The world's No. 2 PC maker said in February that directors Michael Miles and Alan Lafley would not stand for reelection.
