CALGARY, Alberta, Sept 13 (Reuters) - Devon Energy Corp. (DVN.N) has put a Canadian oil sands property up for sale as it concentrates its efforts on an existing property in the region, the company said on Thursday.

Devon will sell its McMullen property in the southern reaches on the oil sands district of Northern Alberta. The property is an area of close to 109,000 acres (44,000 hectares).

Devon said McMullen could contain about 1 billion barrels of tar-like bitumen but did not say how much it expects to raise from the sale.

A spokeswoman for the company said McMullen was put on the block as Devon concentrates on its existing oil sands operations at its Jackfish property.

Jackfish, a thermal operation where steam is pumped into the ground to liquefy bitumen so it can be pumped to the surface, is to produce as much as 35,000 barrels a day when it reaches full output next year. An expansion to double output could start construction in 2008.

Devon expects bids for McMullen by mid November.
