Just A Minute With: Seal
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Seal says having children with his German supermodel wife Heidi Klum helped him see the world in a different way when writing his latest album.
Seal, 44, and Klum have three children -- Leni, 3, Klum's daughter from a previous relationship with Formula One race car manager Flavio Briatore, two-year-old son Henry and 11-month-old son Johan.
"They slow you down in a really positive way. They force you to kind of look at the world through their eyes," Seal told Reuters Television.
Seal spoke to Reuters as his fifth album "System" was released this week:
Q: What was your inspiration for the album?
A: "Throughout the creative process of this album I became somewhat obsessed with the whole concept of systems, how they play such a big part in our lives. Right off the bat we're born into this domestic system and then we go through this emotional system and the educational system. We seem to kind of spend our lives either trying to break an old system and conform to a present one or indeed trying to create a new system."
Q: How do describe the sound on your new album?
A: "One of the criteria I set myself when making it was that I was going to go back to basics and try and write everything from the guitar in the way that I used to when I wrote 'Crazy' and 'Killer.' It just so happened we addressed the songs in 'dance-like' manner."
Q: Do you think going back to your roots in a way is pushing you forward? Continued...
