"Passions are running highest for euro zone equities, where the net overweight position is the most positive in 18 months. Among global sectors, investors have 'the hots' for technology, insurance and industrials, while utilities are still shunned on valuation grounds," Merrill Lynch said in its latest monthly Global Fund Manager Survey.
"Global pharmaceuticals are once again the sector that is perceived as most undervalued. Outside of traditional assets, investors are underweight commodities, neutral property, and overweight 'alternative investments' such as hedge funds and private equity."

"Today, investors are equally split, suggesting that the global business cycle is not as advanced as they originally thought. In a sense investor perceptions of the business cycle have gone back to exactly where they were one year ago - and not that far from where they were two years ago," Merrill Lynch said in a note detailing results of its latest Global Fund Manager survey.

The high levels of call buying in Netflix Inc. (NFLX.O) is seen as a likely
bearish sign for its shares from a contrarian view, said Jay Shartsis at R.F.
Lafferty.
Its 21-day volume based put/call ratio fell to a new low of near 58 puts traded for every 100 calls. Last August, 200 puts traded for every 100 calls. That was a lot of bearishness from option traders and the stock rallied from $18.12 to $30 in December. "In contrast we now have the most relative call buying since Oct 2004," he said. This call buying is taking place against a stock that has been standout weak, not strong.
It shares on Wednesday fell 33 cents to $22.58.

U.S. stocks rose sharply and the Dow industrials hit a record high on Wednesday, boosted by comments from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke that the economy will grow moderately as inflation eases.
The Fed chief's message in semiannual testimony to Congress on the economy eased worries that the central bank will raise interest rates any time soon. After Bernanke's comments, interest-rate futures indicated a higher chance of a rate cut by the end of the year.

U.S. stock options volatility dropped on Wednesday as the U.S. equities market extended its bull run after Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said inflation pressures were starting to ease.
"Bernanke's comments alleviated some of the concerns that investors had about another hike in interest rates and now are more comfortable that, in the near-term future, there may actually be decreases," said Herb Kurlan, president of Vtrader Pro, an online options, equities and futures firm in San Francisco.
