MEXICO CITY, April 16 (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama said on Thursday he was hopeful of fixing a dispute with Mexico over a ban on Mexican trucks on U.S. highways.

The prohibition has led to a trade fight, with Mexico slapping tariffs on a long list of U.S. exports like fruits and industrial goods in retaliation.

"My team is working with President (Felipe) Calderon's team to resolve this issue and I'm hopeful that we can resolve it in an effective way," Obama told reporters after talks with Mexican President Felipe Calderon. (Reporting by David Alexander and Adriana Barrera, Editing by Sandra Maler)
