FORT WORTH, Texas, May 31 (Reuters) - Steve Stricker held his nerve to win his fifth PGA Tour title in a playoff with fellow American Steve Marino and South African Tim Clark at the Colonial Invitational on Sunday.

The former world number three sealed victory with a birdie at the second extra hole, hitting a superb eight-iron approach to four feet and calmly sinking the putt.

Clark, bidding for his maiden title on the U.S. circuit, had a golden opportunity to end the tournament at the first extra hole but narrowly missed a birdie attempt from seven feet.

The trio had finished the 72 regulation holes on 17-under-par 263, overnight leader Clark bogeying the last for an even 70 while both Marino and Stricker closed with 68s.

It was the third playoff in the last four years at the PGA Tour event. (Writing by Mark Lamport-Stokes in Los Angeles; Editing by Ed Osmond; To query or comment on this story email sportsfeedback@thomsonreuters.com)
