U.S. index futures were flat on Wednesday, ahead of the last session of 2008, a year many investors would no doubt like to see end. Impacting the futures was a further decline in crude oil prices, as well as the news that the Federal Reserve will move forward aggressively with an effort to lower mortgage costs by buying $500 billion in mortgage-backed securities by mid-2009. Dow Jones industrial average futures DJc1 rose 15 points while S&P 500 futures SPc1 were up 2.5 points and Nasdaq 100 futures NDc1 were down 0.25 points.
