BG makes North Sea oil discovery off Norway
OSLO (Reuters) - BG (BG.L) has made an oil discovery in the North Sea off Norway, Norwegian energy officials and a partner company said on Monday.
"The well, located northeast of the Snorre field in the northern North Sea, proved an oil accumulation in a reservoir of Jurassic age," the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said in a statement.
BG is the operator and has a 45 percent interest in the licence. Its partners are Norwegian Revus Energy REVUS.OL, Japan's Idemitsu (5019.T) and Germany's RWE Dea (RWEG.DE).
Revus said separately that the discovery in the Jordbaer prospect was "significant" and that the well tested at an average rate of 7,500 barrels per day.
"In Revus' opinion the Jordbaer discovery significantly increases the likelihood of additional discoveries in the area," Revus said.
