BEIJING, Feb 3 (Reuters) - ZTE Corp (0763.HK) 000063.SZ, China's second-largest telecoms gear maker, is aiming to become one of the world's top-three GSM shipment vendors this year, after rising to fourth place in 2007.

ZTE saw GSM product shipments double in 2008, which translates to 15 percent of newly added global market share, the Chinese company said in a statement.

The company did not say what share of the global market it has presently.

Chinese telecom gear makers, such as ZTE and its bigger rival Huawei Technologies [HWT.UL], normally concentrate on developing countries in Asia and Africa.

Other major telecom players, such as Ericsson (ERICb.ST) and Nokia Siemens Networks [NSN.UL], often compete in more mature markets for better profitability.
