LG Elec Q1 handset sales at record, sees bright Q2

Seoul, April 16 (Reuters) - LG Electronics Inc (066570.KS), the world's No. 5 mobile phone maker, said on Wednesday it sold a record 24.4 million handsets in the first quarter, compared to 23.7 million in the previous quarter.

Its operating loss margin in the display division came at 5.6 percent on a parent basis, narrower than the fourth quarter's 6.6 percent loss, LG said in a statement.

Its mobile phone unit posted profit margin of 15.9 percent on a parent basis, stronger than an 8.3 percent margin in the prior quarter. (Reporting by Park Ju-min and Kim Yeon-hee; Editing by Keiron Henderson)
