KOREA ECONOMIC DAILY

South Korean government is considering sending troops to Dokdo islets, called Takeshima by Japan, and building a hotel there as part of countermeasures against the recent territorial claim of Japan over the disputed islets, the government said.

SK Group plans to purchase a building in Shanghai next month to turn it into the company's global centre, the company said.

World top memory chip maker Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS) and a high-end server maker Sun Microsystems Inc JAVA.0 have decided to collaborate on developing a single-level-cell NAND flash memory device for use in solid state drive (SSD), Samsung said.

South Korean government is confirming the new allegation that it was a 17-year-old female guard who shot and killed a South Korean woman tourist at mountain Kumgang in North Korea, the government official said.

South Korea's ruling Grand National Party plans to introduce legislation within this year that urges the government to seek to improve human rights situations of North Korean residents as well as North Korean defectors residing in South Korea.

The government is considering a large-scale amnesty on the Independence Day next month including big-name politicians and businessmen, the goverment official said.
