May 2 (Reuters) - Sports news in brief from around the world:

Soccer - Spanish sports daily AS say Real Madrid have not given up hope of signing Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United after the player's recent comment that he would decide his future after the Champions League final.

"Nowadays it is the players that decide when they leave a team," an unnamed high-ranking director at Real was quoted as saying by AS on Friday. "

"He knows that Madrid would be delighted to sign him, but we can't do anything until he thumps his fist on the table. His comments have given us hope."

Cricket - The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board on Friday filed a 220 million rupees ($3.39 million) lawsuit against fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar in Lahore.

"The defamation suit has been filed after Shoaib failed to respond to a notice sent to him earlier for making unsubstantiated, damaging and defamatory statements about my client," Nasim Ashraf's legal counsel Tafazzaul Rizvi told Reuters.

Rizvi said the lawsuit hearing would begin on Saturday.

Motor racing-Italy's Imola race track reopens this weekend with a party after renovation works aimed at getting the circuit back into Formula One following the scrapping of the San Marino Grand Prix two years ago.
